Family Vacations

Cold and beautiful
Stands Lake Superior
Remember, Fifth grade?
HOMES
Heron
Ontario
Michagen
Eerie
Superior, and here I stand.
Mom and Dad,
Couldn’t we have gone somewhere warm?
And noneducational?
Florida, California, Hawii
Warrant a shake of the head
But Canada? Wisconsin?
Why not?
Alaska.
In the summer?
Mom and Dad nod.
Seventeen years of vacations
Wasted on arboretums and gardens
Cold camping trips
Family visits
Boring spring and summer breaks all leading to,
All building to;
Senior year- graduation
Now I’m free to travel and see the world
Even though its not April yet, the count down starts I will be sharing some poems I wrote for my creative writing class. I never thought of myself as a poet, in fact the idea of writing poetry always kind of scared me but I have found after writing a few poems in a class assignment that I really like it and people seem to like my poems as well! My fiction writing, not so much... here goes:

Life is like a box of chocolates
Life is like a box of chocolates
The icky ones filled with orange cream
Or raspberry that I spit out
Rich dark chocolate I crave
White chocolate that haunts my dreams

Life is like a box of chocolates
Almond filled crunchy chocolates
Carmel filled truffles to fight over

Life is like a box of chocolates
Littered empty boxes on Valentine ’s Day
That were suppose to fill your heart
But instead just filled your stomach

Life is like a box of chocolates
A big box, a small box
A sign of affection
A sign of hunger

Life is like a box of chocolates
They come in all shapes
Squares
Triangles
Hearts (for the super cheesy)

Life is like a box of chocolates
Full of worn out analogies
So cliche
A poet’s worst nightmare
This site is for my writing, I am a sixteen year old (seventeen in two days!!) with ambitions to become a famous (or not) writer some day. I will be posting my poems from NaPoWriMo during the month of April and hopefully next November my novel (fingers crossed).
